Regrettably I will not be able to attend the dedication for Private Eiljah Burt of Co. D "Jeff Davis Sharpshooters" of the 7th Regiment Mississippi Infantry. His service and life deserve special reverence. He served from enlistment through Shiloh, Munforville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Hew Hope Church, Kolb's Farm, The Chattahoochee line, Atlanta, Ezra Church, Jonesboro, Franklin and Nashville. He was one of the 74 of the regiment that returned to the fight after being furloughed. He surrendered with Co. A 9th Miss. Regt. Consolidated at Smithfield, NC in May 1865. By that time the regiment that had once held over a 1000 men had been reduced to the size of a company. To all his relatives be sure to sign the guest book at
www.7thmiss.org so we can keep in contact as new information is posted about the "immortal seventh". We also welcome any family stories, letters, and photos for posting and inclusion in the regimental history. Please forward photos of the dedication particularly.
