Thank you, I am very intrested in seeing the letter.
I will admit though, I am confused. Which 1st Mississippi did he command? The 1st MS (Partisans) were at Harrisburg but the were commanded by Lieutenant Colonel S. M. Hyams, Jr. General James Chalmers reported there were some "skirmishers" of the 1st Mississippi Infantry with McCulloch's brigade the evening of the 14th, but there is no Colonel Polk associated with this regiment. I've looked through Dunbar Roland's Military History of Mississippi and cannot find a Reynolds Battalion or a Colonel Polk anywhere.
I am intrigued.
