A. A. Carter enlisted as a 3rd Sergeant in Company D, 1st Battalion Mississippi Intantry, State Troops (30 day, 1864) August 23, 1864 at Brandon, present at September 14, 1864 muster, no further records

A. A. Carter enlisted as a Private in (Old) Company C, (New) Company H, 41st Mississippi Infantry March 20, 1862 at Rocky Ford, Mississippi, fell out on the march/retreat in Kentucky, October 16, 1862, recorded as in Pontotoc, Miss. on the end of year muster roll, recorded on the March/April 1863 muster roll as "Present - but in arrest for desertion," subsequently AWOL since August 22, 1863, dropped from rolls as a deserter September 5, 1863
