My brother once lived along the road to Craven House. A couple of trails leading around the west face of Lookout from Craven House will take you past several picket posts among the rocks. If I recall, picket lines of the 34th Mississippi Regiment ran up the slope from a point on the creek to the stone palisades just beneath the crest of the mountain. It's not hard to visualize Confederate defenses along Lookout Creek near the railroad bridge.
