Re: Cpl Wm. Belote, 29th MS Regiment

Alan,
Thanks for your immediate reply to my posting. I'm certainly glad that you also have obtained Cpl William Belote's muster roll record and are also taking an active interest into this individual. You are quite correct to assume that Belote could be alive at the end of February, 1864. I have been doing genealogy research on a William Belote only to recently discover that a "William S Belote" is the person of interest rather than the "William H. Belote" of the 29th Mississippi infantry Regiment. Upon reviewing the 1860 federal census I discovered two Belotes,(William S from Tippah County MS. and William Belote from Hardeman Co. TN). They were born 1828/1829 and by the 1870 census it appears that William S. no longer exists with his family and William from TN also no longer exists. I don't know how much research you have done into "William Belote" but do you possibly have any more info? By the way, there are a lot of family trees posted that indicate William Belote was killed at the Battle of Lookout Mountain, however, now this information isn't very likely to be accurate.
Again, thanks for reply- Dennis Eggert
