Thanks for the information. My G uncle, Reuben Barrett Ward, was a private in CO. C 6TH MS INF. According to his CSR,
he died at Tupelo on June 24, 1862. His mother, my GG grandmother, Prudence Plumley Barrett Ward, filed probate in Leake County "for the purpose of obtaining from the Government of the Confederate States whatever may have been due".
The Leake County probate record dated February 16, 1863, states that he died at Chesterville on June 22, 1862. I have no idea what happened to his remains. I have visited the Chesterville Cemetery and seen the monument.
