Let me correct my error. Records for this man are filed under both units, but the bulk of the 2nd Mississippi Battalion records have been filed with the 48th Mississippi Regiment. That's the case here.
The soldier named died near Yorktown VA in December 1861. Bobo's father, a resident of Fayette County AL, filed a death claim for his son, who died without leaving a wife or child. Fayette County probate court papers necessary to file the claim are included in the soldier's service file. Copies are available here.
The mill nearest this man's unit was called Wynn's Mill on the upper reaches of the Warwick River. In all likelihood the grave site was left unmarked and now exists on private property somewhere near Yorktown. The National Park Service at Yorktown could probably confirm this.
