"I was mistakenly sent N.J. Smith's, Co. B, 3rd MS infantry, service records for Nimrod Smith's, Co. H, 3rd Mississippi infantry. Nimrod, apparently, doesn't have a service record and doesn't appear on any muster rolls but does have pension and headstone applications.

It's a big, confusing, mystery I wish I could solve."

WRT to N.J. Smith and Nimrod Smith, they might be the same person (unless I missed something earlier in this thread). I know from my own research into Captain English's MS Battery, many of the men went by initials on their service records incl. Captain English and it has been hard to track down their names in other records.
