John H Handley was living in Richmond in 1850 appears to have been in the 1st Light Artillery at least initially as a private.

Second and best option is John C Handly, Saline Mounted Rifles, MSG Pvt. Then 2nd Lt Co F with Shelby (5th Mo Cav/Gordon's), wounded at Springfield sent home mid '63, no further record found as yet. Lived in Lexington MO before and after war. Age 45 in 1862. He was indicted for 2nd degree murder with a whole bunch of guys that appears to be a post war witch hunt.
