General Bowen and his Missourians
By the way, General Bowen was in command at the Battle (Disaster) at Big Black Black Bridge.
There was no Highway Bridge at this point.
Highway traffic crossed on a Ferry.
The Bridge was a very long and high Rail Road Trestle that had been planked over for highway traffic. This was the head of navigation for steam boats on the Big Black River.
Also, two small steam boats was lashed together side by side in the stream and were used as a bridge, Their location was just down stream from the Rail Road Bridge.
Both bridges were prepared to be burned if things did not go well.
Things did not go well and "General Bowen and the Missourians" burned both bridges delaying the Yankee Army.
