The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: The Confederate Army at Vicksburg

Very good and interesting.
A couple of us did a lot of work on General Bowen and his activities a few years past.
Very educational.
Let's discuss and debate it some.
Champion's Hill. Until sort of recently There was nothing to see at Champion's Hill.
Recently, the Vicksburg National Military Park has gotten involved and some good stuff is beginning to happen. When your family visited, 20 years past I think you said, it was just a spot out in the country. The same at Big Black River Bridge.
Grand Gulf is sort of hard to get a handle on, the Mississippi River has migrated about so much.

The Battle of Port Gibson is sort of interesting and you can get a handle on it pretty good.
We tried to avoid the Siege, that is pretty well explained in the O R. The V N M P does a good job of explaining from the Yankee point of view.

We looked into the Missouri people after the Seige and the rest of the War.
Again much confusion.
