Re: 15th KS Goss, Norton and Quantrill guerrillas

Everyone knows that Jesse James joined Quantrill's guerrillas and that he mainly rode with "Bloody Bill". But looking at your first post (1/31/2014) on this subject thread it reads like your saying Jesse James was at Cane Hill/Prairie Grove. Frank James was at Cane Hill/Prairie Grove, but Jesse was not. Jesse joined Quantrill's men shortly before the Lawrence, Kansas Raid of Aug. 21, 1863. Quantrill didn't let Jesse go on the raid for two reasons: (1) he was too young and (2) He had shot the tip of a finger off in camp, while cleaning/working on his loaded colt pistol. When this happened Jesse let out a yell "dingus-darnus, I've shot my finger off", the older guerrillas around camp found this extremely funny. Jesse was tagged with the nickname "Dingus". He tolerated the nickname as a young guerrilla fighter for a while, but later on and after the war no one called him "Dingus" to his face.
