The information in brackets is part of a cross posting I made on the Illinois board. (Please bear with me)
[My great great grandfather John Jefferson Harbison joined Co. A, 103rd Illinois Infantry from Fulton County, Illinois. The 'Report of The Adjutant General of The State of Illinois' Vol V p 618 lists him as John J Harrison and records him as 'deserted Jan 18, 1863'. The Illinois SOS website lists him as deserted Mar 10, 1863, also as 'John J Harrison'. NARA card gives his name as John J Harvison. He is listed on the July 1863 Draft Registration as Jefferson Harberson in Putman Twp, Fulton County, Il and under 'remarks' is written 'deserter'.] John Jefferson Harbison removed to Fulton Co. Il sometime after the 1860 census where he was enumerated in Kaolin Twp., Iron County. He joined another brother Smith Barlow Harbison who was already living in Fulton Co. Il in 1860.
On the draft registration for Fulton County, it is noted that Jefferson Harberson had prior service in 'some Mo Regt'.
His brother William Harbison registered for the draft in Iron County, Mo. Under Former Military Service is written 'none', and under 'remarks' is written '3 mos Rebel Army'. On the 1890 Veterans Schedule for Iron County, he is listed as William Harveston, Rank Private, Company A, Sept 1861 to Sept 1863, no other unit designation. His name is crossed out, and in the left margin is written "Conf".
My question is this- given what little information about these two brothers' service in Missouri, do any of you think it will be possible to research this? 'Some Mo Regt' and '3 mos Rebel Army' isn't much to go on at all. I would appreciate input as to whether I should even try to research this. Note that I have come across many variant spellings of this surname in my research.
