Sgt. James C Steakley

James C Steakley, Sgt, Co. K, 3rd MSM Cavalry was my great great grandfather. All I know of his service is what I've read in Peterson's book. I'm hoping that some of you might know more about him and his service- good, bad, or ugly. I know his story as he told it is just that- his version. Was he present at what's known as "The Wilson Massacre"? Did he help torch Doniphan? Like many an old veteran, he seemed to enjoy telling of his past exploits, but while he mentioned the "Doniphan Scout", he said nothing about burning the town. (I am also descended from Bollingers, Hahns, and Seabaughs among others). I would appreciate it if someone could share sources, etc. Thanks.
