The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Looking for info on John B Hinds of McDonald C

I can at least say what outfit he wasn't in at the time of organization. The Southwest Missouri Regiment (6th Missouri Cavalry CSA) was raised by John Coffee in September 1862 in Newton County from men who were from McDonald and Newton Counties, but Hinds is not listed on the rosters. I checked Clarkson's Battalion, whose men came from that Corner of Missouri and NW Arkansas. Nothing there. When Col. Coffee was relieved of command of the 6th Mo., he raised a Partisan Ranger command with mostly men from SW Missouri. This is a strong possibility. There just isn't any real records of that outfit. Coffee and his men did not exactly endear themselves to much to either side during the war. The soldiers and Sailors books will at least identify the name.
