John Hinds, 1st Corporal, Company I, Gause's Regiment, Trans-Mississippi Infantry,* enlisted June 20, 186_ at Camp Cache by Col. Matlock for 3 years, appointed 3rd Sergeant April 2, 1862, last recorded on August 31, 1863 as absent, sick with leave since June 7, no further records
Note: The next bi-monthly muster roll surviving in the records is for the period Jan. & Feb., 1864 which does not record him. This indicates that he must have been dropped from the rolls on one of the two intervening bi-monthly musters. This could have been because of discharge, death, capture, desertion, etc. Most likely a medical discharge
* This regiment was designated at various times as Matlock's Battalion Arkansas Cavalry, 4th Regiment (Gause's) Trans-Missippi Infantry, Gause's Regiment Arkansas Infantry, and 32nd Regiment Arkansas Infantry
