Baker 5th Cav Battn 2nd Div MSG
In Response To: Re: 10th mo. ancestor ()

Joe;

I haven't dug into that very far as I wanted to make sure I had the right John Baker of the 10th Missouri. A good first place to look would be Histories of Lewis county that sometimes list the enrollments of county residents into locally raised companies etc. Another is to flesh out who was doing what when. All the leaders of the 10th, Moore, Priest, TB Winston, Steen, Pickett all had MSG duty in the 2nd Division, 1st or 5th Cavalry. Most all had some connection to Lewis County. I'll run the SOS files and NPS files to see what I can drag up. Lastly Col McClarty who seems to be the fellow listed on a bunch of the Co A enlistment papers including Moore and Steen and Baker's is a bit of an enigma to me yet. It stricks me that this unit Co A under Capt William Moore in Steen's Regiment was functional for several months before being sworn into the CSA in Nov 1862. It was a chaotic time and records are a mess as MSG units came and went and CSA units were formed and shipped off east and so on. This was no slacker unit as they had been at Lexington and Pea Ridge taking casualties.
