Yes, I recall our earlier correspondence in this forum now. You have certainly had to follow a rough road in tracing your ancestor's military record! I see I don't need to remind you about mistakes by military clerks! I looked for your ancestor in the 1860 census (which I probably did before), but all I could find was in north Moniteau County not far from Jamestown the household of 60-year-old Henry Gerniden that had a 20-year-old lady by the same name (perhaps your Henry's sister), but no young Henry. Perhaps I told you before that the census takers had a hard time recording young, single men, since such people were so mobile and hardly kept a place to hang their hat. You've done well against great adversity! I wish you continued success, since there is not much more I can do for you.
