Re: Looking for regimental info

Thank you for your reply, Bruce. You've also responded to previous inquiries I've made about this ancestor, whose name was Henry Geminden. He lived in Moniteau County and enrolled in Company E of the 43rd at California, Mo. I have service cards for him for the 43rd Regiment EMM, where his name was misspelled "Gemunden," The 45th Regiment Infantry Volunteers (Company C), where his name was misspelled "Garminden," and the 50th Regiment Infantry Volunteers, where this time his name was misspelled "Gaminden." I think I've pretty well touched all references to these units in the "O.R." I don't think I saw anything specific about his unit taking part in action against Shelby, but if you are saying some of the references to the 35th EMM actually pertain to the 43rd, I'll definitely take a look at the O.R. citation you provided. In regard to the 45th, I think I have a pretty good bead on its activity in Jefferson City defending against the forces of Gen. Sterling Price in October 1864, and its subsequent assignment to the Nashville-Franklin campaign (although the regiment arrived too late to take part in the Battle of Nashville.) Then the regiment got to spend the heart of the winter at desolate Johnsonville, Tenn., which Nathan Bedford Forrest destroyed a couple of months earlier. At Johnsonville, the regiment must have witnessed the explosion of the steamboat Eclipse, which blew a boiler. So I have all of that, as well as the names of the steamboats on which the regiment went here and there. Beyond all this information which I obtained from the standard sources, I was just wondering whether anyone might have info about these regiments during the times I previously cited--again, things like newspaper accounts or letters that may have been written by others serving in these regiments at the same time great-great-grandfather Henry did.

Thanks again.
