Page 359 of Connelley's book is where you'll find the reference by Holt to Vernon Co. He was engaged in conversation in Lawrence with Henry S. Clarke- whether that was a an error that jumped into history at some point I'm not sure but I have a terrible habit of adding to indexes as I read and made that note as I read a version I had printed from the web years ago (being also a Vernon Countian by birth).

Hope that final volume of that trilogy is coming along well Bruce. I've made room on the shelf. Appreciate all the assistance and info you provide on the message board. Love the site Jim - thanks for preserving the family info out there on the web for others.
