Thanks for the comments on the website. No, my Baker line is a different one. My Baker ancestor came from ireland in 1742.
As for deserters, many of the deserters from the Confederate Army just wanted to go home and protect their families. They knew the families were in danger from Jayhawkers, Unionists and federal forces, and they didn't want to be 500 miles away. They went home and became Guerrillas.
