EMM - VMM - 1890 Census

In reading the posts about the Enrolled Missouri Militia I am wondering about the regiment my gggrandfather was in and what is the meaning of the designation VMM. He was in the 1st Regimant Missouri State Militia Infantry Co B & D - in 1863 he served for 3 months during a flood in Ste Genevieve Missouri (from his Civil War service card)...1st Ltd William Thomas Callaway County VMM was the captain of the unit, and his son James Thomas was a private. Gggrandparents William and his wife Amanda are on the 1890 Missouri Census so we know William was a Union soldier but don't understand how the census is set up or if it tells where they were living when they died much less where they are buried. I have tried to find out what VMM means but unsuccessful so far and wondered if anyone can enlighten me on both this subject, and the 1890 special census.

Tnx so much,
