Several years ago I saw a report in the ORs, can't quote chapter and verse, in a scouting report to the yankee commander in St. Louis early in 1865, the guerillas who had went south with Price's army after his Missouri raid were trickling back across the border. He ordered they were to be given an oppurtunity to take the oath and otherwise to be treated as the worst of criminals. Could that upswing in temps have been what they were waiting for to come up from Arkansas?
