I see. Well, that letter is a treasure. I assume that Pond may have known the Robinsons in Laclede County before the war, or maybe not. Either way, it was kind of him to write that letter to let a widow and mother of so many children know what happened to her husband. Sort of a note of decency in a world gone mad.
