Breeding/Training Race Horses

Clardy's Bat. members, John Rayfield and Lucien Farris both raised horses themselves and had in-laws living nearby on Black River who raised fast horses. Some of the surnames we are looking for include Dinkins, McFadden and Mann. The McFaddens lived on Greenwood Valley. At least one local Carter County author has written about the "half-breed indians" and their horse races on Greenwood Valley. J. J. Chilton called them the McFarlands on Greenwood Valley. A local Wayne County historian also made reference the mcFaddens and horse racing in Greenwood Valley. A couple of the Manns and at least one of the McFaddens served for the Union or was at least in the militia. Anything going on in the entire area having to do with fast horses would have included these families in the activities.
