Don: I think your ancestor served in the 2nd Missouri Infantry Regiment, 1st Missouri Brigade, CSA. Its first commander was Colonel John Q. Burbridge. Company G, which was raised in Monroe, Ralls and Shelby counties, was initially commanded by Captain Thomas B. Wilson, who was dropped from the roll on November 24, 1863 and was replaced by Captain Thompson Alford.

It appears to me that the newspaper simply got the colonel's name wrong. Burbridge is admittedly an unusual name.
