The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: lodi plantation, alexandria ,la.

No, not really. Though my mother had two notable ancestors (Gov. Moore and Leroy Augustus Stafford), there wasn't much discussion in our house because dad was a yankee(and one of his relatives was at Gettysburg). It wasn't discouraged, but it wasn't encouraged either(as my folks stopped at Appomatox Court House when returning to Louisiana from visiting relatives up north.

I know there's mention on this bulletin board about battles around the Moore Plantation home, and assume that to be the Colonial Brick home that they lived in at Mooreland(just south of Alex), that is until he was forced to leave as things heated up around Alex.

And though he also had all of the land that comprised Lodi (at one time), I'm unsure of what time of home he may have had there. I do know that after the war and receiving his pardon from Pres. Johnson(courtesy of WT Sherman), that he and his wife Bethia took over their overseers house at Emfield Plantation - until his death there in 1876. Not exactly sure where Emfield was, though it's referenced in another link to being within or adjacent to Mooreland. Haven't yet been able to find any documentation (on the web) as to exact location.

May pay a visit to Alexandria library again to see what I can find out.
