Dear Danny Odom
Very good; This was my goal. To get us and others to thinking about Such.
Thinking outside the box.

It would appear that the Paragraph beginning "A Cargo of Bacon" is the Virgo.
Also mentioned is Choctaw Bayou in Louisiana, andin Missisisppi Howell Hinds, Jefferson County, Missisisppi, Port Gibson, Missisisppi and General Bowen.
Further; General Bowen was in command at Grand Gulf.

Is anyone knowledgeable about Choctaw Bayou, location, etc,
It must be well down the Red River.

And Also, The Steamer Charm is mentioned several times.
It ended up as being used for a bridge in what was known as the Skirmish at Big Black River Bridge in May - June 1863. It was burned by the Confederates.
The Locaton is just downstream from the Southern Rail Road (The Rail Road is still inplace, not the Bridge.) between Vicskburg and Jackson.
