mechanic institute hospital

I recently read an article that stated when the C.S. Cornie was captured at Franklin, La., the ship had ran 1 1/2 miles above Franklin,La. but was ordered back to Franklin,La. and upon returning to Franklin,La. she was captured by the forces of Gen. Weitzel. The article stated that the wounded, dying, and deceased aboard ,Union and Confederate, were bound for the Mechanic Institute Hospital. Where was this hospital located ?
If C.S. Cornie was turned around upon the orders of Gen. Sibley he clearly must have been above Franklin,La. when the order was given, yet, within a day ,500 captured Confederate soldiers , whole companies, were sent to the Franklin Courthouse ( I suspect 31 of 43 soldiers captured 4.14.63 from Co. F, Captain Joseph Hebert's 10th La. Inf. Battn. were sent there ) Gen. Sibley must have retreated on a non congested roadway. How many retreat routes in 1863 were available ?
If Col. Thomas Green was fighting rear guard action at Centerville, understanding his force was cavalry and most captured were infantry, he must have fallen back through retreating Confederate infantry .
Bisland (Confederate) and Mansfield (Union) were very hard times to be alive, especially if you belonged to an infantry unit and couldn't ride a horse !
