Mike

I appreciate the follow-up information. As a footnote, my GG-Granduncle, Sgt. Miles Gibson Parker, served in Co. B of the 1st LA Volunteers and was surrendered at Appomattox.

I agree that Art's description is one of the best for both the 1st LA Regulars and 1st LA Volunteer Infantry (and many others). I use his short unit histories on my summary sheet information for various soldiers, with appropriate attribution, because they are so historically solid. I thought the information on Lawrence M Carpenter was interesting and provided a good introduction to the 1st LA Regulars (Strawbridge's). Sadly, the NPS summaries are from Crute, and he included much incorrect information in his Trans-Mississippi unit summaries.

Thanks for your good recommendations and your knowledge of this unit. I am appreciative that you picked up on the message train and headed it in the right direction.

Don
