I have to agree with Mike on this one. The 1st La. Regulars had heavy casualties at Pittsburgh Landing, while the 1st La. Infantry wasn't there, as Don has pointed out. Your best bet is that Carpenter wasn't in Nelligan's 1st La., but was in Strawbridge's 1st La. (although Strawbridge wasn't the commander when Carpenter was there).
