Ms Littrell

As indicated by Steve Mayeux, Lawrence Carpenter is listed in Booth (1920), the National Archives Confederate Service Record and the National Park Service CW Soldiers and Sailors listings as a private in Co. D of the 1st Louisiana Infantry (Nelligan's). The interesting thing is that he was captured at Pittsburg Landing (Battle of Shiloh), TN on April 8, 1862. He must have been captured wounded on the battlefield on the day after the battle, or during the rear guard actions (Battle of Fallen Timbers).

At that time (April 8, 1862), however, the 1st Louisiana Infantry was in Virginia, and had been for at least 6-9 months. In other words, he was not serving with the 1st Louisiana Infantry at the time, but with the Confederate Army in Mississippi.
