Kenny,

No one is any trouble. I was and still am just trying to enlighten you and everyone else in the laws concerning unmarked graves in our state. Since you mentioned a Civil War era cemetary near where you were digging, I felt I needed to inform you of them. The sheriff deputy I was chatting with about Civil War sites in the area just happened to mention that he saw a guy with a metal detector and was curious of his intended hunting area. I remembered your post and since you mentioned you were there the day before, the same day he saw someone, I assumed he saw you. Again, no one is in any trouble but I did feel the need to inform you of what the laws were in case you did in fact run across the cemetary being that there is one in the area.

If you read the laws I quoted, as long as you report to the local law enforcement authorities anything that might be part of a burial site, then everything will be fine. I am not trying to discourage you or anyone else from metal detecting, just urging you and others to be careful around sites that may have unmarked graves and if you have any doubts about something you find, to contact the right people.

At the fear of being off subject, as this board pertains to Civil War matters, if you want to continue this post with personal questions, by all means contact the webmaster and he will forward your email to me.
