Mr Holloway

Do you think there is any interest or capability for a survey (aerial, ground search, geo-penetrating radar, etc.) of the Camp Pratt area to locate the Confederate cemetery and other Camp Pratt facilities or locations, or any intent to assess potential for a LA Confederate memorial? The location of the cemetery would a great "peace-of-mind" find for families/descendants of interred Confederate soldiers and might provide an opportunity for an appropriate memorial site. Possibly this has already been tried and I understand that the area is quite overgrown. I went by there on February 7, after a stop to meet and visit with Morris Raphael - it certainly is undeveloped. It is a significant La CW site and is lost or near lost as is the Vienna, LA Confederate post or camp discussed in another recent discussion string on this MB.

I am also interested in determining the location of the Confederate Hospitals in the New Iberia area (there probably were two - one at Dulcito Plantation near Camp Pratt - and one in New Iberia [New Iberia Central Hosp.]) and it seems logical that there might be two cemeteries for Confederate dead - One at Camp Pratt and one in or very near to New Iberia. The records, however, are not clear.

Thanks for any input

Don Parker
