Re: Comanches allied to Confederacy

Wow. thanks. I read those treaties -- very interesting. There were there things that caught my eye.

Those smaller or lesser known tribes were/are associated/allied with either the Caddo or the Wichita. Also noticed it listed the Shawnee and Delaware. All these tribes had left East texas near Tyler about 1838-1839, being forced to leave by Texas Militia. There IS a Delaware Tribe of Western Oklahoma near Anadarko even today -- in fact all those tribes live near Anadarko today -- all except the Shawnee. Now there were at one time some Texas Shawnee as well -- these were all forced out by Texas militia as were the others. I suspect these Shawnee migrated with the Caddo and Delaware to what is now Caddo County, Ok. I wonder what happened to these Shawnee in Western Oklahoma after the Civil War? They were near Anadarko during the War obviously as they signed the treaty with the Confederacy -- but they are NOT in Western Oklahoma today -- when did they leave (during the war? immediately after? years later?)and where did they go?

Also noticed at first one band of the Comanche signed the treaty, and later several others did. One band was called "Noconi" Band of the Comanche. Quanah Parker's father was a war chief named "Nocona". I wonder if the names of these "bands" were the names of the Chiefs of the bands rather than the names of the Comanche bands themselves.

Also noticed the Kiowa never signed a treaty with the Confederacy. In that period of history, the Comanche and Kiowa were allied with one another much of the time. So I wonder why the Kiowa didn't sign the treaty? Something had to have happened that they weren't over. They were upset over something the Texans had recently done to them, I suspect. I wonder if the Comanche and Kiowa agreed with themselves that during those times, the Kiowa would keep a lookout on their southern border in Texas, while the Comanche would defend the Northern border, reversing their usual roles. Thus the Kiowa signed no treaty with the Confederay while the Comanche did. As always, i might be wrong . . . :)
