Re: Kingston, GA surrender, May 12-20, 1865

Gerald,
I will share my experience researching Confederate surrender lists or as NARA refers to them, "Parole Rolls." First, if you have found parole cards in the compiled service records for soldiers in the units of your interest, then the parole rolls do exist for those units within the collections of NARA. The paroles shown in the complied service records were carded directly from those parole roles. They are located in Record Group 109, War Department Collection of Confederate Records, Entry 212, "Parole Rolls." Within Entry 212, the rolls are organized in alphabetical order by state and then by "Parole Station," again in alphabetical order. The problem you run into sometimes is, for instance, the paroles for Kingston, Ga. may not be under the name of Kingston. They may be under the name of a nearby town or village. The problem with all this is that you have to go to NARA Archives I in Washington DC to access these records as they are not available on microfilm. If all else fails, ask for DeeAnn Blanton in the Manuscripts Order Room on the first floor. Hope this helps. Good luck.
