Re: Tarlton Bull, DeMorse's 29th Cav, Co E

If i said 1890 I was mistaken -- He is there in 1920. In 1880 they were still in Eastland County, Texas -- sorry if I said that. The book was written in 1890 that mentions him. That is what I meant to say. I think it was Murray county. I might even be wrong about that. If not Murray they moved very close to Murray. :) But this was after statehood. It is my family (Jeff and Josey Richey, my great grandparents) that lived in Old Pickens District, Chickasaw Nation, per 1900 census. Per Indian/Pioneer Papers my great uncle, Oscar T. Richey, said we moved there in 1889, near Duncan, in Stephens County..

As I said I found that about him online in a book about the genalogy of the Jackson family. His mother was Nancy Jackson. That book an be accessed online. I did a google search for Tarlton and it came up. I am sure if you write the name of the book it will come up and you can read it online. Tarlton's mother Nancy Jackson was somehow (not sure how) related to Andrew Jackson. I am related to Tarlton's second wife Sarah Brown (she was sister to my great grandma, Josephine [Brown] Richey), and not to him at all. I am related to his children by Sarah, though. If you do an internet search for the book I mentioned in the last comment, it also tells about his brother George Bull, but I haven't transcribed that part. That will take more time. Eventually I might get around to transcribing that part but don't have the time now.

I suspect he was contacted by one of those Jackson's who wrote that genealogy book in 1890 and he probably responded, then the Jackson book author included selected portions of what Tarlton told him. Maybe someof what he said did contrdict official records, I really don't know. It seems to say he was discharged in Little Rock, Ar and your records put him in Texas. maybe they surrendered in Arkansas and when he got back to Texas they didn't think they should have surrendered? I don't know.

Good to hear from you. :)

I wrote that first comment because it said in that letter from his sister it said his father died on "Horse Creek" in the Cherokee Nation. and he later told this Jackson researcher that during a cavalry battle in the Cherokee Nation that his horse stood on his father's grave. My question is was there a battle at "Horse Creek" in the Cherokee Nation? If so, what battle was fought there?

I only found this Jackson Genealogy book account in the last year, but I just don't have the time to research that I used to have. Again, good to hear from you.

best wishes,

Vance Hawkins
