Re: Co. F, 21st GA, Ben Hill Infantry

In search of information on the muster date of my Great Great Grandfather, William A. Harper. I cannot find him on any roster for Co. F, 21st Ga Infantry, yet he was captured at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863, imprisoned at Fort McHenry, then Fort Delaware, then onto Point Lookout, MD where he joined the 1st US Volunteers in January, 1964. He served at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory until he mustered out in November, 1865.

Every document I have (which are several) state that he was with Company F of the 21st Georgia Infantry. He was from Heard County, GA which is adjacent to Troup County. I believe my G-G-Grandfather was a water boy (only 15 yrs old when the war started) and went with his older brother to serve the troops, and perhaps picked up a rifle to fight when the troops started diminishing. There were three Harpers on the roster for Co. F of the 21st GA inf., but I cannot connect them to Wm A. Harper. I also cannot find him concretely in the 1860 census.

Any information that anyone can find would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Bill
