I am Joseph M. Hood, D.C., the paternal 2nd great grandson of the Wiley Hood to whom you are referring. My late mother, Mary Ann Cavender Hood wrote and published a number of genealogy books. Among them was one entitled "Some Ancestors and Descendants of John Smith Hood and Georgia Ann Wilcox". John Smith Hood was my paternal great-grandfather and the son of Wiley Hood, who was born in 1809 in South Carolina and died in the Battle of Deep Bottom Run in Virginia. Marion Dallas Hood was the son of Wiley Hood and also fought in the Civil War. He was the older brother of my great grandfather John Smith Hood.
