Having read several of your posts, you seem to be interested in the medical happenings of the civil war. There is a volume of books "Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion" The US Surgeon general had docs and hospitals send him their records (so they could see what was working) and captured confederate hospital records. You can find some of the volumes on-line and a CD online at Amazon although one person told me volume 3 was missing on his CD. I haven't found the index online though and it is much easier to use with the index. Sometimes there is more than one entry for the same soldier as he was sent elsewhere or back to the lines and relapsed. You can see how they treated many wounds and diseases. Sometimes it looks hit or miss: "Run out of Bromine so tried Iodine" (or vice-versa as I can't remember now). You might check out nearby libraries if you are interested. It is an impressive work but also very sad and not for the weak stomached like me- I usually had to skim over details when looking someone up. If I remember correctly it was published twice with slightly differing names.
