Re: 16th BN GA Cavalry State Guards

At the American Civil War Research Database, I found only 7 men listed in the battalion. Your two were not among them. Here is the information found in the Compiled Service Records for one of them:

16th GA Cavalry Battn
Organized: on 7/1/62
Mustered Out: 1/16/65

William Lavender, Private, Company I, 16th Battalion Georgia Cavalry,* enlisted February 10, 1864 in Jackson County, Ga. by Lt. Holliday for the war, no other record

Note: This company composed of men of non-conscript age, they being either over or under the age of conscription or exempts, and was received and the officers commissioned by the Governor of Georgia on the 10th day of February, 1864, and assigned to the 16th Georgia Battalion Cavalry

* The 16th Battalion Georgia Cavalry having been increased to ten companies, its designation was changed to the 13th Regiment Georgia Cavalry, to take effect from May 2, 1864

Sifakis’ Compendium of the Confederate Armies records this information:

Georgia 16th Cavalry Battalion, also known as 16th Partisan Rangers Battalion, Organized with 7 companies in the summer of 1862. Increased to a regiment and designated as the 13th Cavalry Regiment on January 16, 1865, first commander Lt. Col. F. M. Nix
