Bi-monthly muster rolls for Company D, 9th Georgia Infantry are missing from the records for the period March, 1863 through October, 1863 which precludes knowledge of their service during this period. Henry was on furlough January 31, 1861, then on Recruiting duty in Georgia from February 3 to March 15, receiving pay for this period of service on March 31, 1863 at Richmond, Va. It would seem reasonable to believe he was present with his regiment at Gettysburg in July.

Henry D. Raley, 4th Corporal, Company D, 9th Regiment Georgia Infantry, enlisted June 11, 1862 at Ft. Gaines, Ga. by R. A. Turnipseed for the war, recorded on the Jan/Feb, 1863 muster roll as 1st Corporal and absent, on furlough, received commutation of rations pay while on Recruiting Duty in Georgia on March 31, 1863 near Manchester,* Virginia, he next appears on the Nov/Dec, 1863 muster roll at 5th Sergeant and as present, on the subsequent bi-monthly muster roll he is recorded absent, detailed in Tanyard, Va., wounded June 16, 1864 at Burmuda Hundreds, admitted June 17 to Receiving and Wayside Hospital, General Hospital No. 9, gunshot wound, died June 19, 1864

His file contains correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department with the Georgia State Board of Pension Commissioners, Atlanta, dated June 10, 1915
