I have since looked further into my family and their involvement in the civil war. I recently was going through other documents in my possession and found more mention of the Georgia State Line. The witness you said appears to be in the Ga State Line 2nd Regt company A as a Lieutenant, and also there is not alot of documentation on them. Would there be anything at the Georgia Virtual Vault website i can look at? Reason being im interested so much in this state unit i have apparently family members on both sides that were in it.

My other family member was James David Rice. Captain R. P. Eberhart enlisted James D. Rice as a private in Company B, Wright’s Legion, Georgia Infantry on October 15, 1861 in Elbert County, Georgia at Hayley’s Store. He is listed as present on the muster roll dated November & December 1861. Wright’s Legion became the 38th Regiment Georgia Infantry. James D. Rice was shown as having been discharged on December 28, 1861. His medical discharge shows his name as David Rice; however he signed as James D. Rice. He is described as being born in Elbert County, Georgia, and is 18 years of age. He is five feet eight inches tall with fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair and by occupation a farmer.
On February 16, 1863 Captain Thomas J. Neal enlisted J. D. Rice as a private in Company E, Second Regiment, Georgia State Line in Jones County, Georgia to my knowledege for the remainder of the conflict. His father Robert Rice also joined Co.E .
I know from research done by other's they were merged into the Confederate Army in June of 1864 and fought at Kolbs farm and other battles through out the whole Sherman march to Savannah campaign.
Still looking for any old photo's of this unit.
