Mr. Ford,
One other thing you might consider. If indeed he did survive the war, and never married, if he is buried in the Marietta Cemetery, you might take a little time to look at the graves in the section marked " died in Soldiers Home" most of these graves are marked. ( this section is down the hill from the cannon and a little to the left as you walk toward the gate) It could be possible his name was not recorded. If not a long shot would be to check with any local SCV units to see if they might have recorded his grave while doing research or cleaning a cemetery. Good luck.
