I forgot to answer your question about the "Rhodes Gang"..
I read the following from the net about THE BATTLE OF
MARIANNA FLORIDA.

The article states that a Richard "Dick' Curlee was
Lietenant of the "Rhodes Gang" and his commander
was John M Rhodes. It states that John M Rhodes
had already deserted before the battle at Marianna,
he deserted April 12, 1864.

This is obviously the JMR that you have found
that joined at East Pass and deserted.
