Thank you so much for your help....I certainly hate to think of my John Rhode as a deserter and a vigilante, but he did
live in Coffee County in 1860 AND the story passed down about him being killed by the homeguard upon returning
home from the war certainly makes it sound as though this was my John.

You said there was a pension applied for, do you have knowledge of who applied for it?
