MOC Flags

I was just down in Richmond, on Thursday. MS. Cathy Wright now is the curator at the MOC. MS. Rebbecca Rose, moved over to the Virginia Historical Society.

We took many pictures of the Rebel flags they had on display. I also asked about the Union captured list at the CSA War Department. They said there is NO list at all. The fires that destroyed much of Richmond, destroyed all evidence of captured Union flags.

So, now that is knocked out, the best "list" seems to be the Identified Union Colors recaptured by the Union Army. Only 58 captured Union colors are listed.

Some of the Rebel flags, we saw, took pictures and wrote down.

3rd Florida--Flag not captured, saved at surrender.
3rd Florida--Company D. "Wakulla Guards"
13th Virginia--First flag, never captured.
47th Virginia---Flag captured by the 50th Pennsylvania at Weldon RR. August 19th, 1864.
5th Kentucky/Later 9th Kentucky Inf---CSA Flag, Colonel Hunt's HQ Flag.
7th Virginia Cav---Company A. "Mountain Rangers". Turner Ashby used that flag as his HQ flag.
3rd Arkansas Inf---"Believed captured during the Appomattox campaign".
3rd Florida, Company B, "Any Fate but Submission".

Toured the Confederate White House, had a good time.

Well, gents, there is no "list" at all. Which is good news, least that is out of the way.

Enjoy your weekend!
