Don is credited in the book for the cover image which is also reproduced in the images section so it would seem that he got his permission.

Among the mistakes in this book are:

1) Nicola Marschall did NOT design the First National flag. William Porcher Miles of the Flag Committee stated clearly that no designs were "suitable" so the flag was designed by the committee itself. Marschall's name does not appear anywhere in the Flag Committee Scrap Book at the national Archives.

2) He depicts an ANV silk flag for the 8th Virginia with battle honors painted on it and states that this is one of the November 1861 flags. It is not. This is their second flag made from a lady's dress - the first ANV silk flag for the regiment that WAS issued in November 1861 is currently on loan to the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA.

3) He did no digging into the Citizen's & Business Files of the National Archives and speculated what Richmond dry goods dealers sold the silk to Colin M. Selph. He got the suppliers totally wrong in the book.

4) Makes the claim that the flag made by Mary Lyon Jones was THE first ANV flag and that the Cary flags were made from this as a guide. Constance Cary makes no such mention in her book and period documents state that they used a drawing to fashion their flags.

5) Brown makes no mention that there were three types of ANV silk flags made and presented (all are depicted in Troiani's print) probably one type per sewing circle is my guess.

There's a couple more but these should suffice. As I mentioned, I reviewed this for Civil War News last year and that review can be found on their web site.
