Wiley Sword's book, among others, has this:

"In Johnson's front (US cavalry division commander) the only enemy posted along the Charlotte Pike - behind Richland Creek - were about 900 Confederate cavalrymen under Colonel Edmund Rucker. Rucker's isolated brigade was the sole remnant of James R. Chalmers' Division, assigned to the extreme Confederate Western flank....Ector's Brigade of North Carolina and Texas infantry under Colonel David Coleman was supposed to support Chalmers along the adjacent Hardin Pike..."

Sword goes on to state that the early Union probes scared Coleman who withdrew to the southeast exposing Rucker's right flank (Cahlmers was here as well).

Johnson bungled his attack and the vast majority of Rucker's troopers got away. At the Battle of the Barricades the next day, the 12th Tennessee Cavalry US captured what is probably the battle flag of the 12th Tennessee Cavalry CS as well as wounding and taking Col. Rucker.

Based on how Sword wrote this I cannot see where any of Rucker's units lost a flag along Richland Creek but who knows.
