The flag is in the Minnesota Historical Society - what's left of it anyway. Its fragments are mixed with those of the 35th Mississippi's flag of the same pattern, both captured at Allatoona Pass in Georgia in October 1864. These are depicted on their web site along with the paintings done of these two flags before they were destroyed.
If he depicted the finial in it I would suspect, but cannot prove, that the finial was with the flag and, if that was the case, then its depiction is accurate.
